Quiapo

walking in quiapo I see

strange worlds, breathing and living,

running dirty and naked,

yet alive still.

I see:

the dirt of the human soul,

floating endlessly on top of

the rivers, dying,

punished for their propensity

to live amongst the living.

walking and looking, I hear

the sound of a living city,

convulsing and singing,

as if daring the world to more

grueling fights for its soul.

the blade,

the fire,

the laughter of a drunken symphony,

shirts removed and tatoos ablazed,

it dared fate and shouted, mockingly:

is this all you've got?

One of my hobbies while I was still in Manila was walking around.
I walked in Balintawak, Monumento, Quiapo, Divisoria and all other places
of less than savory nature (literally).
One recurring theme you'll notice is that of resilience.
We, human beings, are very resilient creatures.
Fate can give us every pain in the world, and yet, we drink, we laugh,
we sleep and we live life as if we can still take some more without breaking.
